What is coaching?

Remember "if you continue to do what you have always done you will get the results that you have always got".

Coaching is a way of supporting and empowering the individual in a non-directive way. Coaching is not a tinker up job, it is not meant to be a temporary fix. It is life changing process which allows you to explore your ideas, fears, goals and challenges, to discover what has been holding you back, to challenge any limiting beliefs and then to replace them with new empowering beliefs and ideas. Coaching will:

  • help you to clarify exactly what it is you want
  • evaluate how possible it is to achieve it
  • help you identify any obstacles you may have to overcome along the way
  • look at all your options
  • help you to set and achieve those important goals

What are the benefits of coaching?

The main benefit is the achievement of your goals and/or making desired changes to your life. But there are countless other benefits that aren’t as obvious. Because of the nature of the questions and the open atmosphere you will develop a deeper understanding of yourself, what drives and motivates you, what triggers your behavioural patterns and how to align yourself with your goals. As we work towards your goals we are most certainly going to uncover limiting beliefs and fears which will be challenged and tested.

We all know life can be hard, but with coaching, time, and motivation you will find it life changing. All you need is a desire for change, an open mind and a commitment to take action. You will receive the right support for you to enable you to transform your life as you want to. As individuals we invest money in everyday pleasures such as:

  • a party with friends
  • spa treatment
  • eating out
  • having a massage
  • a visit to the hairdresser
  • or any other number of luxury items

These treats are essential and well advised, however, the outcome of them is short lived, the 'fix' has to be repeated on a regular basis, and you still have to go back to the everyday grind of the life you currently live with nothing changed. Your commitment to coaching is an investment in your life and your future, it’s an investment you can’t afford to miss.

How do I get started?

After receiving your enquiry I will send you an information pack by e mail, which will include a client profile sheet (telling me more about what you want). You will then return your questionnaire by email, prior to starting your sessions. As a next step we will arrange the first introductory session, which is free of charge. This gives us a better understanding of what is going on in your life right now and what you want to achieve from coaching. It saves time and ensures you are on the right course of action. After that I will send you the contract.

What is the first introductory (free) session for?

This session is for you to find out whether coaching is the right intervention for you at this particular point of time and whether I am the right coach for you. I will introduce you to the process and answer all your questions. We will clarify your goals and expectations from coaching and will agree the schedule that will suit you best.

How can you help me?

Your coach will be there to encourage, empower and support you personally during your 1 – 1 coaching. You will be listened to and respected but I won’t tell you what you should do nor give you advice. Instead I will help you to identify and develop your strengths and recognise and challenge your fears.

Remember, coaching is NOT counselling, psychotherapy, mentoring or teaching. Coaches know you have all the answers locked away within you, and that you are the expert in your life. Your coach is the key to unlocking the answers to your problems and challenges. During the sessions you will unlock doors in your mind you didn't know were closed. You may have good relationships both personal and business and be in a well paid career, however it may be that you feel something is missing, or that you see yourself as a 'fraud' who might be found out. Perhaps it feels as if you are stuck in a rut, or that you have trouble juggling all the balls in the air at one time. You might believe you have had enough of waiting for things to change and have decided you want to take action, gain that confidence, banish procrastination, take responsibility, have more choice and get things done now. Coaching will help you to focus on what you want rather than on what you don’t want and then assist you in making the transition.

How many sessions will I need?

I would recommend 10 sessions, because it has been noted the most powerful changes are experienced over a 90 – 180 day period, however, the initial agreement can be for six, eight or ten sessions and add on sessions agreed to suit your needs.

What happens during the coaching sessions?

During the sessions, either over the telephone (Skype) or during a one to one meeting, through the use of powerful and effective questioning along with coaching 'tools' you will identify what is currently working well in your life, what is not working so well, what you want in your life and how to go about getting those things. With your coach’s help:

  • You will agree to set specific actions during each session, which you will act on over the coming week
  • You will be made aware of any negative or limiting beliefs or language that you currently practice
  • You will be listened to carefully and respectfully
  • You will be supported during all the sessions
  • You will never be judged nor criticised
  • You will not be told what to do
  • You can choose to have personal development exercises to do in between calls

What are the length and intervals of the sessions?

The normal coaching session lasts 60 minutes. Having the right interval between booked sessions is very important in order to get the most out of the coaching. Leave it too long between sessions, and it gets hard to stay focused and on track. Too short and it can be hard to fully digest the experience or perform the actions you have planned for yourselves. What the right interval is may vary depending on client personality and the nature of the goal / outcome chosen. I will help you to come up with interval that suits you and your circumstances.

What is expected from me?

When you are getting coached, your coach won’t be doing all the work. You’ll be expected to put in effort and do some work as well. A coach doesn’t change your life. You do. What I will do is give you the tools and resources so that you can achieve your dreams with my guidance and support. Coaching isn’t a magic bullet, but a much faster and more effective way to find yourself, make a change in your life, and reach your goals. Successful development takes persistence and willpower. I can only take you as far or deep as you want to go. To successfully change you need to commit and follow up on your plans and actions

Why trust and comfort are important?

If you feel a genuine connection with your coach, you’ll also want to make sure that you trust them and feel comfortable. To get the most effective results, you’ll need to be able to be completely open and honest with this person, so that they can speak to whatever core issues you might have. The more that you can let your guard down and just be your normal, natural self, the more your coach will be able to work with the 'real you'. You’ll want to be able to say just about anything, as if you were talking to a really good, non-judgmental friend. This way, they can give you the real support and guidance that you need to move your life forward.
